About the Sudari Awards

The Tamil Women Development Forum (TWDF) is a project initiative of the Centre for Community Development (CCD), a registered charity based in the United Kingdom. Recognising the needs of the times, this initiative not only focuses on women in the homeland but also actively engages in various activities promoting the welfare of children and the elderly.

Despite facing the challenges as many others do in the diaspora, these women continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience and a deep commitment to community upliftment. Many continue to endure hardships in silence, without the recognition they deserve. For human society to function meaningfully, it is essential to acknowledge and encourage such individuals. With this in mind, the TWDF has expanded its efforts beyond the homeland. In 2023, TWDF launched the Sudari Awards to honour women leaders who have made outstanding contributions in fields such as education, literature, public service, and economics.

The upcoming second Sudari Awards ceremony aims not only to remain within the United Kingdom, but also to take a significant step forward by recognising and celebrating outstanding women leaders from across the global Tamil diaspora.

Funds raised through this event will be directed towards implementing development projects in the homeland, aimed at empowering economically disadvantaged women and families by enhancing their skills and improving their livelihoods.

Social transformation is not possible without the active participation of women. Our community draws strength from the resilience of its women. This event seeks to create platforms for women to discover and showcase their talents, to encourage their involvement in social development, and, through recognition, to unlock and mobilise the resources, capabilities, and aspirations of our community. In doing so, it aims to contribute to the socio-economic advancement of our society.

Sudari is an award by the people, for remarkable women. This event is made even more special by the heartfelt support of Tamil people everywhere, and the TWDF stands committed to delivering it with integrity and purpose.
